Day 22+23 Batumi, Tiflis
📅 22th + 23th July 2025 📍Tiflis
From Batumi to Tbilisi – Sweetbread, Speed, and a Touch of Bavaria
Crossing Georgia turned out to be one of the highlights of the journey so far. A newly built highway now connects Batumi directly with Tbilisi, winding through green hills and wide valleys—a route made for road trips.
We made excellent progress eastward. Somewhere along the way, between sea views and mountain passes, we took an unexpected but memorable detour: a stop at the Georgian outpost of the Hofbräuhaus. Yes, you read that right—a slice of Munich nestled in the Caucasus. Beyond the cold drinks and Bavarian nostalgia, it offered something even more essential for us: a 120 kW fast charger. While the ID. Buzz recharged, we had a chance to enjoy a pretzel.
As we cruised through smaller villages, we noticed a unique pattern—almost every few houses seemed to be selling the same object: clay molds used for baking nazuki, Georgia’s traditional sweetbread. It became a roadside rhythm, a subtle reminder of how local culture can literally shape what’s on the table.
We rolled into Tbilisi in the evening, where we were warmly received by Giti Tire Georgia. Their hospitality was second to none, and we spent a relaxed evening sharing stories from the road and hearing their own.
The next morning brought more than coffee—it brought a conversation. We visited the German Embassy to discuss our upcoming passage into Azerbaijan. Crossing into the next country requires more paperwork than usual.
