Day 64+65 Guazhou to Peking

📅 2nd/3rd September 2025 📍Peking, China

From Guazhou to Beijing: Detours, Parades, and Urban Miles

When we realized our charger was too damaged by that faulty ground wiring, we pivoted: our ID. Buzz hit the highway not on its own wheels, but loaded onto a truck for the long run to Datong. Only there—the mid-sized “big city” with over three million people, though in China it’s officially just medium in scale—did we know we could find the right electronics experts to revive our circuit board.

We rolled into Datong on the eve of 3rd September, just as Beijing was gearing up for its immense national parade. The spectacle was everywhere: every TV, every screen, every radio tuned to military bands and ceremonial grandeur. For hours, all other news simply paused.

Once specialists in Datong had repaired the charger, our journey could pick up again—this time continuing through bustling streets lined with classic residential blocks, back onto the open road. By evening, we approached Beijing, merging at last with the city’s pulsing nightlife and dense traffic, finally reaching our hotel.

The sense of relief was real as we plugged in overnight—seven kilowatts humming in, battery filling. Arriving in Beijing on schedule felt like crossing a finish line. Everyone was happy; the city was alive.
