ID. BUZZ WORLD TOUR

First circumnavigation of the globe in an all-electric vehicle. 75 countries will be visited.

Embarking on an extraordinary journey around the globe, Rainer Zietlow—eight-time Guinness World Record holder—is once again pushing the boundaries of electric mobility. At the wheel of a Volkswagen ID. Buzz, he set off from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles headquarters in Hannover, Germany, on July 24, 2025. His mission: to set a new Guinness World Record for visiting the most countries in a single journey in a fully electric vehicle.

The star of the project is the vehicle itself: the ID. Buzz LWB (long wheelbase). Volkswagen is currently introducing the model worldwide. It is 60 cm longer than the base model and has a longer range thanks to its 86 kWh (net) battery capacity.

This epic expedition is more than just a world record attempt; it’s a celebration of innovation, endurance, and sustainable travel. Spanning over 80,000 kilometers, the route crosses more than 75 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, and the Americas. During this eight-month journey, Zietlow and his team will navigate diverse landscapes, from bustling cities to remote regions, proving that electric vehicles can go the distance—literally and figuratively.

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including GitiSynergyH2 tires specifically designed for electric mobility, the ID. Buzz demonstrates how advanced engineering can meet the challenges of long-distance travel, safety, and sustainability. The journey is not without its tests: unpredictable charging infrastructure, demanding terrains, and logistical hurdles may await at every turn. Yet, with over two years of preparation and a spirit of adventure, Zietlow is ready to show the world what electric vehicles are truly capable of.

As with previous projects, this one is also supported by numerous sponsors. Follow along as this remarkable voyage unfolds—tracking the team’s progress, sharing in their discoveries, and witnessing firsthand the possibilities of a zero-emission future. This is more than a world record; it’s an invitation to dream big and explore further, one electric mile at a time.
