Jakarta to Semarang: Market Crowds and Motoring Camaraderie

Our journey continued as we departed Jakarta in the ID. Buzz, bound for Semarang. A brief stop at one of the city’s bustling markets brought us face to face with its tightly packed stalls and energetic vendors—a vibrant, slightly chaotic start to the day.

Back on the motorway, I was thrilled to have the company of the Volkswagen Club Indonesia, who joined in with their lovingly maintained classic T2 and T1 buses. Together, we formed a cheerful convoy, weaving memories and conversation as the kilometres rolled by.

We arrived in Semarang in the evening, where dinner became its own event: a superb meal served in the elegant setting of an old colonial mansion named “Spiegel”. A Volkswagen Safari joined the party, lending an extra dash of motoring spirit to an already memorable night.
