Semarang to Surabaya: Classic Convoys and Community Spirit

On the first of November, our wheels turned once again—this time headed from Semarang to Indonesia’s second-largest metropolis, Surabaya. Once more, the motorway became a moving parade as members of the Volkswagen Club accompanied us in their gleaming classics, vintage charm lining the route.

Arriving in Surabaya, we were greeted with a well-attended press conference, buzzing with enthusiasm and curiosity about the ID. Buzz and our overland adventure. After the formalities, Volkswagen led me straight to a lively gathering of their community, a festival celebrating the marque’s storied history. Surrounded by proud owners and their lovingly preserved vehicles, the welcome was as warm as the tropical air.

With spirits high, we set off once more—destination Bali. True to the season, our journey was marked by stretches of quintessential Indonesian rain, turning the road into a glistening ribbon winding eastwards.
