Day 126 from Surabaya to Bali

📅 3rd November 2025 📍Bali, Indonesia

Bali – A Reunion

The anticipation for the day’s journey had me buzzing from the very morning. From Surabaya, the plan was clear: reach Bali by road—an especially exciting prospect, as I had first crossed this route back in 2012 during the Tuareg Project. Leaving Surabaya early, we took a few photographs in the city before the worst of the traffic set in, capturing those quiet urban moments that disappear once the day truly begins.

Our route then followed a long coastal road, offering breathtaking views of the sea shimmering beside us. The combination of the ocean on one side and the green land on the other turned even the simple act of driving into something meditative and grand.

After leaving the national highway, the police provided an escort and accompanied us along the remaining stretch towards Bali. Their presence lent the drive a sense of occasion, as if the ID. Buzz were part of a rolling ceremony rather than just another vehicle on the road.

By evening, we reached the ferry terminal. Loading the car is always a tense moment; whether you make it aboard or not cannot be guaranteed, as there is no precise schedule and every centimetre of space is used with near-mathematical accuracy. Watching them inch vehicles into place, right up to the last bit of deck, never feels routine.

That night, we stayed on Bali, kindly hosted by a local Giti Tire subsidiary, whose support once again made logistics feel effortless. A personal highlight was spotting an ID. Buzz decorated with painted flowers—a cheerful echo of classic flower-power heritage, reimagined for the electric age.

Next stop: Jakarta!
