Day 173-175 From Border Village to Perth

📅 20th to 22nd December 2025 📍Perth, Australia

Across the Nullarbor to Perth

Roughly halfway between Sydney and Perth came the obligatory stop: the famous Nullarbor Plain sign, marking the start of Australia’s legendary treeless expanse along the road to the west. It felt like standing at the gateway to one of the great classic road trips of the continent, a subtle but powerful milestone.

A particularly beautiful photograph presented itself at the rugged coastline, where the ID. Buzz posed against the dramatic drop of the cliffs and the endless sea beyond, typical of the Nullarbor’s wild southern edge. From there, the journey became a rhythm of progress from roadhouse to roadhouse—those vital outback oases offering fuel, food and a brief human presence in an otherwise vast emptiness.

Six days after leaving Sydney, both the bus and I rolled safely into Perth, tired but satisfied. Here, at Australia’s far western edge, a ship was already waiting to carry us onward, this time across the Indian Ocean to Durban in South Africa – another continent, another chapter still to come.

Next stop: Durban!
