Day 25 Tiflis, Armenia

📅  25h July 2025 📍Armenia

From Tbilisi to the Caspian – Borders, Buzz, and a Brief Armenian Detour

We spent a few days in Tbilisi, taking a necessary pause in our journey – not for rest, but for logistics. Together with our partner, Auto Link GmbH from Hamburg – true specialists when it comes to navigating the Caucasus – we worked on organizing the next leg of the tour: the passage through Azerbaijan.

Since COVID, Azerbaijan’s land borders have remained closed, and unfortunately, that hasn’t changed. That means no drive-through – at least not in the conventional sense. Instead, our ID. Buzz had to hitch a ride on a truck to reach Baku. Because we couldn’t actually drive the vehicle across the country ourselves, Azerbaijan won’t officially count toward our list of countries visited for the Guinness World Record.

On Friday, July 25th, I took the opportunity for a spontaneous cross-border trip: a short drive from Tbilisi to Armenia. Right after the border, I found several fast chargers already equipped with the Chinese GB/T charging system – an interesting sight and a glimpse into the evolving charging infrastructure across regions. After sorting out the local car insurance, I headed back to Tbilisi, another border crossed and another story added to the growing list.

From Baku, the tour continues by ferry across the Caspian Sea to Aktau, Kazakhstan – where the wheels of the ID. Buzz World Tour will start turning again on Monday, August 18th.

Until then, we take a short reporting break – but from the 18th onward, we’re back on the road and back with more updates, right here.
