Day 351 From Ilo to Iquique
📅 27TH June 2026 📍Iquique, Chile
Welcome to Chile
We crossed the border at Arica during the night and used our first 80 kW Copec charger. It was great to see again how quickly the ID. Buzz could be charged.
In the morning, we experienced the popular phenomenon of northern Chile: a layer of ground fog covering the valleys every morning, always disappearing by around 11:00 AM.
We followed the route at an altitude of 2,000 meters toward Iquique, a very picturesque and unique city in Chile. The city is surrounded by a 1,500-meter-high mountain range, with a huge sand dune stretching between the mountains and the coast. Chilean road engineers have been very creative in designing dual-carriageway roads around the city.
At night, we continued driving toward Antofagasta and saw many tsunami warning signs, indicating that even Highway 1 could be affected by a monster wave.
