Hefei to Changsha: Urban Giants, Tuk-Tuks and Open Spaces

We departed Hefei on the route towards Wuhan, soon struck by the colossal residential complexes that lined the motorway—modern towers sheltering hundreds of thousands, built at a scale almost unimaginable elsewhere. Through the hum of traffic, overloaded tuk-tuks bobbed along, a familiar sight even amidst such vast infrastructure.

Yet the landscape was far from monotonous. The journey swept past sprawling villages and farmland, eventually leading us through long, unbroken stretches where not a single building broke the horizon—a reminder of China’s immense, ever-changing scenery.

As evening drew in, we arrived in Changsha—a city where old traditions and buzzing urban life meet, and another stepping stone on our cross-country adventure.
